Labidochromis chisumulae is a species which can only be found near Chizumulu Island. It`s mainly living there in the with sediment covered parts of the intermediate zones from rocks to sand. This species doesn't become very large. The male in my aquarium is not yet full-grown, at this moment - february 2010 -he`s about 7 cm, the females are a little smaller, about 5 to 6 cm. Labidochromis chisumulae is a quite peaceful cichlid, it only gets a bit more agressive in mating-season. As soon as spawning is over, he will be hunting the concerning female for a while until she´s hiding between the rocks. When he doesn´t see her anymore he starts seducing another female. He doesn't really seem to care what other fish are doing. They are easy to keep and they go along with the other fish in an aquarium very fast. The males aren't territorial at all like a lot of other "mbuna" - they donn´t defend a permanent place or hole in an aquarium - most of the time they just swim around. They will eat almost everything however it is also an "mbuna", they feed mainly on spirulina or shrimp-peas mix. |
